Be Careful When You Play!

Hello, my name is Little Babbler and I am the youngest member of the Babbler family. We are a group of seven sisters who enjoy running around and having fun with one another. But one day, the games got the best of me. This is what occurred.

It was just another ordinary day. We were having a good time bickering and playing in our favourite garden. Because it was spring, the garden was in full bloom. It was ideal for a game of hide and seek due to the dense green bushes.

We were all hiding from my elder sister. I discovered an ideal location underneath a bougainvillaea creeper. Unfortunately, when I went inside, I didn't realise the humans were growing some plants beneath the creeper. A net was used to keep the plants safe. As I went inside, I got caught! I attempted to free myself, but the more I moved, the more I became entangled. I began to panic and cried out for help. My sisters heard my cry and tried to assist, but my wings were badly entwined by this point.

I was beginning to lose hope. My sisters were all swarming around me. What will I do if I lose my wing? What is a bird if it doesn't have wings? Will I make it through today? All of these thoughts lingered in the back of my mind. Then I noticed some figures looming over me. It was the humans.

Our calls must have alerted them to the fact that something was wrong. They were three in number. They realised I was trapped and attempted to free me by yanking the net away from me. My right wing, on the other hand, was completely trapped. The pull was putting pressure on my wings, which hurt. She tried again and again, but nothing worked. Then she came to a halt and began conversing with the other humans. After that, she vanished. I, too, had lost hope.

She reappeared, this time holding something. It was large and gleaming. I wasn't sure because I'd never seen anything like it before. She took the object and began chopping the net. I was terrified because the net had to be cut close to my wing. As a result, I moved away. I knew the human was trying to help, but the thought of losing my wing made me wary. But I couldn't stay away for long.

The human caught me and clipped around my wing and leg with care. And then I was set free. I flew away at breakneck speed. My sisters welcomed me but also chastised me for being stupid.

The next day, I went to the garden to thank the human! My wing was a little sore, but I could still fly.

Lesson of the day, be careful where you play!
